How to Install Bondage Anchors: Wall, Ceiling & Floor

How to Install Bondage Anchors

Bondage anchors are only as safe as their installation. A stud-mounted anchor with 3-inch lag screws into solid wood will hold 500+ lbs. A drywall anchor rated "for 50 lbs" will fail at 80 lbs of dynamic load.

Locating Studs

Use a quality stud finder. Studs are typically 16 inches on center in US residential construction. Verify with a pilot hole before drilling your final anchor hole.

Wall Anchor Installation

Use a 3/8-inch forged steel eye bolt with a minimum 3-inch shank. Drill a pilot hole, thread in by hand, finish with a wrench. Two bolts per anchor point, minimum. Test with 250 lbs of static load before using.

Ceiling Anchors

Ceiling anchors need to hit a joist — never drywall alone. For suspension-rated points, use through-bolts with a backing plate on the joist's top surface. If you can't do this, use a dedicated freestanding suspension frame instead.

Floor Anchors

For concrete floors, use concrete anchor bolts (sleeve or wedge type). For wood subfloors, use lag bolts through the subfloor into a joist.
